This pastel was painted around 1992 and composed from sketches of the misericords in the choir of St. Laurence, Ludlow.

I used a 100% cotton watercolour paper for the painting which seems a bit extravagant for a pastel. The fact that I seemed to have laid a black acrylic ground probably means that there is a failed watercolour underneath. Fabriano Artistico has a slight cloth-like tooth which takes pastel quite well. I didn't like it as a watercolour paper and preferred Artistico rough which is better.
